Tina Turner is the queen of rock and roll. She endured abuse, misogyny, and racism from the beginning and with hard work and determination, she overcame all of it. The most amazing part is she succeeded without being bitter or holding grudges. Even after Ike dies, she will not speak unkindly about him, even though he’s best known for being the most infamous abuser. River Deep Mountain High was produced with Phil Spector. It wasn’t a hit in America, but very popular in Europe and critics and collogues raved about it. Later versions and remakes would be more popular.
As we approach our 10th anniversary (what?!?), we’ll focus on songs that touch the heart and reflect on life and the relationships we have! This song’s lyrics speak to how love and loyalty grow deep and wide through the years, instead of focusing on the butterflies of the beginning. We’ll also be heading to the wilderness of Alaska – lots of rivers and mountains…perhaps there will be a rendition to share!! Stay tuned for that!
“‘The real power behind whatever success I have now was something I found within myself – something that’s in all of us, I think, a little piece of God just waiting to be discovered.”
Tina Turner

When I was a little girl I had a rag doll Only doll I've ever owned Now I love you just the way I loved that rag doll But only now my love has grown And it gets stronger, in every way And it gets deeper, let me say And it gets higher, day by day And do I love you my oh my Yeh river deep mountain high If I lost you would I cry Oh how I love you baby, baby, baby, baby When you were a young boy Did you have a puppy That always followed you around Well I'm gonna be as faithful as that puppy No I'll never let you down Cause it grows stronger, like a river flows And it gets bigger baby, and heaven knows And it gets sweeter baby, as it grows And do I love you my oh my Yeh river deep, mountain high If I lost you would I cry Oh how I love you baby, baby, baby, baby If I lost you would I cry Oh how I love you baby, baby, baby, baby I love you baby like a flower loves the spring And I love you baby just like a Robin loves to sing And I love you baby like a school boy loves his pet And I love you baby, river deep mountain high Oh yeah you've gotta believe me River Deep, Mountain High Do I love you my oh my, oh baby River deep, mountain high If I lost you would I cry Oh how I love you baby, baby, baby, baby
