INXS charged onto the American new wave/ska/pop scene from Australia in the early 80s. They would morph into more of a rock sound, but always stayed true to their new wave roots and followers. Their first tour in America was as an “opening” band for Adam and the Ants, then support for Stray Cats, The Kinks, Hall & Oates followed by The Go-Go’s. My very first concert was this tour with the GoGo’s with INXS in 1984! Front man Michael Hutchence was charismatic and drew audiences to him. His unfortunate death in 1997 did not stop the rest of the band, but did change their course. There are documentaries about the band and their rise to fame. In “Mystify”, his friends and family share memories and portray a shy and introverted guy with extreme talent became an unlikely star. Read more about some of the key points and issues that changed him HERE.
“Never Tear Us Apart” is a bluesy ballad. A love song without being too cheesy. 🙂 In my research for this post, I was reminded that the video for the song was shot in one of my all time favorite cities, Prague. You can see some of the beautiful sites as they walk along the streets and bridges. It’s a sweet song and has been included on many mixed tapes throughout the years!
“Our music is like a painting and the main things we want to have are very distinct patches of bright and dark. By that, I mean we want to include songs that lyrically cover subjects ranging from the heaviest things we’ve ever done to light-hearted experiences that can best be presented through sentimental bluesy ballads that are usually good for a chuckle or two.” (The Sun-Herald, Australia, 1993)

Don't ask me What you know is true Don't have to tell you I love your precious heart I, I was standing You were there Two worlds collided And they could never tear us apart We could live For a thousand years But if I hurt you I'd make wine from your tears I told you That we could fly 'Cause we all have wings But some of us don't know why I, I was standing You were there Two worlds collided And they could never ever tear us apart I (Don't ask me) I was standing (You know it's true) You were there (Worlds collided) Two worlds collided (We're shining through) And they could never tear us apart You (Don't ask me) You were standing (You know it's true) I was there (Worlds collided) Two worlds collided (We're shining through) And they could never tear us apart I, I was standing You were there Two worlds collided
