On Being Quiet (Archive from 06/30/2014)

I’m pretty new to this, so I’m really just going for it….That’s sort of how I do things – figure out the basics and then just jump in head first. Risks be damned. That’s not to say I’m particularly reckless or free from fear – many things still scare me and lots of those are pretty irrational (that’s a whole other post/topic). Here I’m talking about taking on new things – jobs, hobbies, friendships, etc. – Just do it and see how it plays out…I’ve been rewarded by the universe for those times – and I’ve had to learn a lot too when they didn’t work out (ooh, another post subject down the line).

Anyway – all that to say, welcome to a bit of stream of consciousness!

This is my inspiration today – it was posted as a picture on Buddha Groove’s Facebook page – I love these, they make me think and often become a focus for a meditation.

Its truth and simplicity is astounding. So simple, yet so hard. I believe there is so much wisdom within us and within those spaces between us, and if we’d just sit and listen we could gain that wisdom for ourselves. Many people call this God, or other deities, but that’s not the focus I want to take here – call it what makes you most comfortable, but be open to whichever name you chose, it lives within you and is part of what we call the soul.

To tap into it or to even hear it, there is a quietness that we have to accept and achieve. That is the complete challenge. Everything in our lives is telling us to go faster, go louder… be SEEN, be HEARD!! The media bombards us with their noise and nonsense. Marketing for companies is directed to reach into our psyche and press every button to make us want more and bigger and louder, but not necessarily better.

It happens and our conscious mind doesn’t even know it’s happening. And we all think we have complete control of our own lives. The sad part is when we slow down a little (against everything that ‘they’ are telling us is normal and good) and really get quiet, we can see just how insane it all is and that is scary. <This is where I almost went into a rant about reality TV and how bad it is in general – but I am editing myself – this is about getting positive! But please – stop supporting those people and their feeding on the lowest common denominators in society!> BUT, it doesn’t have to be scary and that is the key.

Getting quiet makes us take inventory. Of our lives, of our pasts. It’s natural to at first focus on what we see as the negatives (mistakes, regrets, missed opportunities), but with a little patience and a lot of self-love that we all deserve we can get through that and look into the light. The light is where the wisdom is – and if we could just be still enough to welcome it and hear it, what a world it would be!

How will you make a conscious effort to get quiet?

It doesn’t have to be a world-changing commitment – just a small change – those together will form the larger.

I am committing to at least 5 minutes a day of focused thought and meditation. I’ll also use my walking time to be quiet and focus my thoughts. (FYI – I’m working on 10K steps a day – another goal to be reached)

It’s CFRS – positively..
